We attended the a joint Assemby - Senate PUBLIC HEARING on "Dog Purchaser Protection Act" SB 308 and AB 567 (AKA the "Plale - Lothian" and "Puppy Mill" Bills) on January 10, 2008 and provided testimony in opostion to these bills (Read our testimony here.)

Two scared dogs on their way to being sold at the Thorp dog auction on 22 September 2007       THANK YOU to the many adovcates and supporters who attended the hearing. Many of you provided excellent testimony regarding these bills. The general concenus was what we've been saying all along..."This bill is not workable and will not solve the problems of abuse, neglect and cruelty in Wisconsin's growing pet industry."

Those who sent written statements prior to the Public Hearing, registered as Opposed and/or spoke in OPPOSITION include:

  • Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) (Read Testimony)
  • The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association
  • Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies
  • Alliance of Wisconsin Animal Rehoming Efforts (AWARE)
  • The Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project (Read Testimony)
  • Alliance for Animals
  • Animal Law Associates of Wisconsin

Many hobby breeders and several kennel clubs also spoke in opposition, especially to the "lemon law" portions of the bills.

The ASPCA did NOT attend to support their action alert in favor of the bills. (Click here for more on the ASPCA alert and why we asked you to ignore it. )
