Puppy mill dog in a Petland Pet Store     We at Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project are already working on strategies for the next state legislative session, and there is a LOT of hard work ahead for all of us. What can you do to help? VOTE!

VOTE! The focus is on the national election, but candidates at the state and local level are equally -- if not more -- important. The only way the world is going to change is one law at a time, and the only way we can get those laws passed is to elect like-minded legislators who will work with us.

VOTE! Want federal environmental and animal protection laws enacted? Vote for candidates who will tip the balance of power in the favor of constructive legislation. Want a pet store ban or ban on research puppy mills in your county or town? Vote for town/county board/commission candidates who are also in favor of such bans.

Want to help change the world? VOTE!!!!!!

Bo Coonhound     Getting legislation passed for animal protection is a complicated process. It takes years of hard work, planning, and intense grass roots efforts. AND it takes local, state, and federal representatives who will LISTEN to their constituents and not just lobbyists and special interest groups.

Please check out your candidates carefully. Some candidates take animal protection issues seriously enough to devote a section of their website to their positions and voting records. For an overview, take a look at the Humane Society Legislative Fund 2020 Candidate Endorsements, including state and federal legislative candidates. To see how your up-for-re-election federal incumbents voted, check out the HSLF Humane Scorecard of US Congess.

Ask your candidates what they would do about specific issues, such as sale of commercially-bred dogs and cats in pet stores. If they are not aware of the issues, arm yourself with facts and see if they are willing to be educated.

Hunting dog in snow-filled run     Our hopes are high going into the 2021 state legislative session. We would like to pick up where we left off after the 2019/2020 session (WI Legislative Summary 2019/2020 Session). In addition, we would like to see some regulation of "exotics" and "roadside zoos" in our state. Our dream is to see the same standards of care required for hunting and pet dogs that are mandated for commercial breeders in Wisconsin.

But the first step: PLEASE VOTE!!!!!!
